Security Alert: May 9, 2009

Saturday, May 9—Police are investigating a series of robberies that have occurred in the Hyde Park-South Kenwood community. On four occasions between May 5 and May 9, a man armed with or implying he had a hand gun robbed lone individuals walking on the street. In each case the offender carried a blue bag. The incidents have occurred between 8:55 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. Three of the robberies occurred in the area of 49th Street to 52nd Street and Ellis Avenue to Kimbark Avenue.
Chicago and University of Chicago police are adding coverage to address this series of crimes.
There is safety in numbers. I encourage you to walk with a companion, if possible.
The Chicago Police and University of Chicago Police are working together to prevent further violence in the area. Faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to use the Safe Ride service, University bus system, or UCPD Umbrella service
