Security Alert: October 12, 2012

At approximately 8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 11–a University student walking on 54th Street near Maryland Avenue was approached from behind by two males, one of whom was armed with a handgun. The suspects forced the victim into an alley and struck him on the head causing an injury. The suspects took the man’s laptop computer and fled. The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment. The incident is under investigation by the Chicago Police Department, which responded to the initial report.

Be alert and aware of your surroundings at all times. Familiarize yourself with the location of University emergency phones. If you see suspicious activity, please report it immediately to the police by activating an emergency phone or by calling UCPD when you get to a safe location.
