RESOLVED: sporadic issues with uchicago-secure, eduroam
Jul 16, 2013 - Beginning at approximately 10am, IT Services received reports that some but not all users of secure wireless (uchicago-secure and eduroam) were unable to access off-campus sites. Network engineers restored functionality by 10:45am and continue to investigate the underlying cause.
RESOLVED: Intermittent issues with local area code calls
Jun. 20, 2013 - As of midnight, AT&T has resolved the issues in their infrastructure and phone service is functioning normally. Recap of event: Beginning at approximately 1pm Jun 19 2013, calls over AT&T in Chicago randomly failed or experienced poor call quality. AT&T identified the issue in their infrastructure which required several hours to fully repair. IT Services has made several test calls to and from the university and hospitals to confirm the repair.
Intermittent issues with local area code calls
Jun. 19, 2013 - Beginning at approximately 1pm, AT&T is experiencing intermittent issues with calls between local area codes in the Chicago area which are impacting the University. Symptoms are heavy static or a noise on the line. As a workaround, AT&T recommends ending the call and redialing since an increasing number of circuits are clear. Calls within the University are not affected. IT Services continues to monitor the situation with AT&T through the night.

Jun. 19, 2013 - Beginning at approximately 1pm, AT&T is experiencing issues causing intermittent failure of calls between local area codes, including to and from the University. IT Services is providing information to assist with the resolution of this issue.

Jun. 19, 2013. Beginning at approximately 1pm, IT Services has received reports that calls between campus and local area codes sometimes result in a fast busy signal or a recording that all circuits are busy. IT Services is working with our provider to resolve the situation.
Authentication Services Restored
Jun. 17, 2013 - At approximately 9:40 a.m. a cooling failure in one of our data centers caused a network device to fail. This caused a disruption for LDAP-related authentication, which prevented people from logging in to wireless, wiki, mailing lists, and other services. The device was successfully failed over and service restored by 9:50 a.m. IT Services technicians will be investigating the root cause of the incident to prevent it from happening again.

UPDATE - Inbound calls to some Gleacher phones fail
May 29, 2013 - As of 5:30 p.m., critical phone numbers at Gleacher have been re-routed to a central number. Outbound calls continue to work normally. IT Services is working with the carrier for our circuit to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Recap of event: At approximately 6:45 a.m., phone numbers (312)423-xxxx at Gleacher stopped receiving inbound calls. Outbound calls and all other phone numbers are working normally. As of 1:30 p.m. critical phone numbers at Gleacher were re-routed to a central number to allow partial restoration of incoming service, while IT Services continued to work with the carrier to fully restore service.

Facilities Services announcements
5201 S. Cottage Grove Ave. - New Construction
Construction of a new 86,000 square foot building located at 52nd Street and Cottage Grove Avenue will start on August 5, 2013. The new two-story Facilities Services building will house shops, landscaping and inventory. The LEED silver building will contain a community meeting room, green roof and off street parking for building occupants. Scheduled completion is targeted for December 2014.
Law School Water Drainage and Garden Projects
A project to repair a city sewer line and to improve storm water drainage will begin on Monday, July 29, through August 2013.
IME Lab Renovation in Jones Basement: Move-In and Building-wide Fire Alarm System Upgrade
Part of the Jones lab renovation project requires the move-in of lab equipment that will impact vehicle parking and pedestrians along Ellis Avenue from Wednesday, July 31 through Saturday, August 3.
6005-6011 S. Woodlawn Avenue and 6042 S. Kimbark Avenue
In preparation for the demolition of 6005-6011 S. Woodlawn Ave. and 6042 S. Kimbark Ave., the campus community can expect the following:
Zoology Chiller
Work to install a rooftop chiller at Zoology will occur on Thursday, July 25, 2013.
New Graduate Residence Hall Sprinkler and Fire Protection
A project at New Graduate Residence Hall is underway through August 30, to provide a new fire sprinkler system and new fire pump service, and to complete interior space renovations. The work will impact vehicle traffic and pedestrians along 60th Street, and building occupants.
Harper Library Roof and Façade Restoration project
As we continue with the structural inspection of the archway from Harper Library to Stuart Hall, beginning on July 17, there is a need to close off the area under the archway to pedestrians. The closure will facilitate the removal and replacement of the stone and steel support.
Main Quadrangles Retractable Bollards Installation: 58th/University and 57th Street (at Cobb Gate)
As summer construction progresses at University Avenue and 58th Street, and 57th Street & vacated Greenwood (Cobb Gate), the access schedule to the main quadrangles is revised, weather permitting, as follows:
Pierce Tower Demolition
In preparation for the demolition of Pierce Tower, scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. on Monday, August 19, building activity is underway to remove existing materials, and to erect a construction fence that will surround the demolition site.
Harper Library Roof and Facade Restoration project
A portion of 59th Street between south University and Ellis avenues will be closed to vehicles between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Monday, July 15 through Wednesday, July 17 to accommodate on on-going construction project.
