RESOLVED: Network and data center power issue
Aug. 14, 2014 - As of 10:00 pm, all services and network connectivity have been restored. Chalk is online and functioning normally, but without full redundancy. IT Services is working to restore this backup system.
UPDATE 6: Network and data center power issue
The mainframe (FAS and HR systems) is up and applications are being tested. Production jobs that rely on the mainframe are currently running. The data center core switch reboot resolved most connectivity by 8:45 p.m, but revealed additional issues. IT Services technicians are continuing to investigate and restore services.
UPDATE 5: Network and data center power issue
Network connectivity issues are still affecting campus. Services including Chalk are affected. IT Services will reboot a switch in the 1155 Data Center at 8:30 this evening to address the issue. We will post an update when service is fully restored.
UPDATE 4: Network and data center power issue
Most services have been restored, but we are continuing to experience issues with the mainframe and network connectivity.
UPDATE 3: Network and data center power issue
The mainframe remains down (FAS and HR Systems). The vendor has been engaged to assist with recovery of these services. The intermittent network connectivity issues have been partially resolved, but some issues remain within the 1155 E. 60th Street Data Center as well as with off-campus connectivity. We continue to investigate and seek resolution.

We continue to experience intermittent network connectivity issues, which may also be impacting other services as restoration of full service continues. The mainframe remains down (FAS and HR Systems), however progress is being made toward restoration. Chalk has been restored to service as of about 3 p.m. Power is fully restored.

Recovery is ongoing. We are still experiencing intermittent issues with network connectivity. FAS and HR systems are currently unavailable, as are some services including Chalk, bulkmail, and email listhosts.
RESTORED - Degraded Voice, Network Service on North Quads
Aug. 5, 2014 - As of 9:15 a.m. voice and network service are working normally. Recap of event: At approximately 12:15 a.m., a ComEd power issue at Eckhart Hall caused us to lose PBX voice and fax service on the North side of the main quads. We also lost all voice and network service in Eckhart. New VoIP phones outside of Eckhart were not affected. Facilities and ComEd were able to replace equipment and restore power by 9 a.m.; network and voice service were fully restored by 9:15 a.m.
Degraded Voice, Network Service on North Quads
Aug. 5, 2014 - A ComEd power issue at Eckhart Hall has caused us to lose PBX voice and fax service on the North side of the main quads. We have also lost all voice and network service in Eckhart. In addition, cellular service in the area may be degraded since we have lost local cellular towers. New VoIP phones outside of Eckhart are not affected. Facilities and ComEd are working to resolve the issue; they are currently projecting that service will be restored by mid-morning.
RESOLVED: answers.uchicago.edu knowledgebase unavailable
June 19, 2014 - As of 1:00 a.m. on June 19, 2014 the answers.uchicago.edu knowledgebase has been restored to normal operation. Recap of event: At approximately 8:20 a.m. on June 18, 2014, the answers.uchicago.edu knowledgebase became unavailable due to a network problem at the off-campus provider which hosts the service for us. ITS engaged with the provider and answers.uchicago.edu was partially restored by 10:30 a.m. on June 18, 2014, but content was read-only while full recovery was in progress. As of 1:00 a.m. on June 19, 2014 full service was restored and content was once again able to be edited.
Facilities Services announcements
Repaving of Rockefeller Chapel Driveway
Beginning Thursday, Aug. 21, work to repave the Rockefeller Chapel driveway will commence. Work is scheduled for completion by Wednesday, Aug. 27, weather permitting.
Temporary closure of Ellis Avenue
A portion of Ellis Avenue will be closed between 56th and 57th streets from 11 a.m. to approximately 3 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 11 while the crane at the William Eckhardt Research Center jobsite is removed.
5225 S. Cottage Grove Avenue
Construction activity will begin on Monday, July 7 to extend the fiber infrastructure to the new Facilities Services building. The work involves installation of conduit from the construction site at East 52nd Street and South Cottage Grove Avenue to East 55th Street and South Ingleside Avenue.
58th and Ellis-pedestrian crossing
Construction crews will be on site beginning at 6 a.m. on Monday, July 7 to make corrections to elevations and to improve drainage to a section of pavement in the 58th Street and Ellis Avenue pedestrian crossing. This work will be noisy and dusty.
Update: Ellis Avenue Resurfacing
The asphalt restoration/repaving along a portion of Ellis Avenue between 56th and 57th Streets is scheduled to start at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, and complete by 4 p.m., weather permitting.
Ellis Parking Structure
Construction activities will begin on Tuesday, June 17 to improve the Ellis parking garage and renovate interior office space. The projects are schedule to be completed by September.
Campus North Residence Hall and Dining Commons
Construction begins on Monday, June 16 for the 800-bed residence hall and dining commons. The building is scheduled to complete before the start of autumn quarter 2016.
Pick Hall Exterior Repairs
Roof and façade repairs will begin at 8 a.m. on Monday, June 16 at Pick Hall and continue through Friday, September 19.
Conduit repairs in main quadrangle
Required conduit repairs will result in construction activity near Walker Hall and Rosenwald Hall between Tuesday, May 20 and Thursday, May 22.
Enhancements to 58th Street between University and Woodlawn avenues
Planned improvements to 58th Street require crews to narrow the intersection of Woodlawn Avenue and 58th Street to one lane now through Sunday, May 4. In addition, a portion of the sidewalk along south University Avenue is closed intermittently now through Wednesday, May 14.
