Kate Kusiak Galvin

Department Manager

As Department Manager, Kate coordinates and manages various activities and projects in support of the Office of the Vice President for Research and National Laboratories. Working primarily with Laurence Hill, Associate Vice President for Program Development and National Laboratories, Kate serves as a liaison to senior administrators, faculty, staff, laboratory management, DOE personnel, community leaders, as well as other partners. Kate provides additional support to Matthew Christian, Assistant Vice President for Program Development; Tracey Quinn, Assistant Vice President for National Laboratories; Michelle Horne-Terry, Director for Operations and Education Programs, and interim support to H. Birali Runesha, Director of Research Computing.

Working with Arete on their program development initiatives, Kate oversees internal processes in addition to supporting external relationships. She works with Lisa La Vallee, Director of Communications, in supporting OVPRNL’s web presence through their website and social media. She collaborates with OVPRNL staff on projects and events related to education program development, strategic collaborative initiatives, and University and national lab partnerships.

Prior to joining the UChicago in September 2010, Kate worked at the American Society for Clinical Pathology. As an Associate Manager in Global Outreach, Kate was responsible for coordinating training events in Kenya, Rwanda, Swaziland, and Cambodia for laboratory professionals under the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), as well as managing both international and domestic partnerships for the Assocation.

Kate has an MBA from DePaul University with a concentration in Integrated Marketing Communications and Entrepreneurship. She received her BA in Public Relations with a minor in marketing from Marquette University.
