Health and Wellness

At the forefront of medicine

The University of Chicago Medicine regularly ranks among the nation’s best medical centers. Our breakthrough discoveries, compassionate patient care, and deep commitment to the health and well-being of our community have kept us at the forefront of medicine since opening our doors in 1927.

We offer a range of programs, many free or low cost, designed to increase awareness of health issues and to improve the health of people all over the Chicago metropolitan area. In addition, we offer a variety of classes, screenings, and support groups—both on- and off-campus—to help you lead a healthy, happy life.

Improving health care systems

The medical center also works to improve the way health care is delivered. Our Urban Health Initiative (UHI) connects patients to appropriate primary care providers within their communities, while supporting research into chronic health care problems that vex cities across the nation. A partnership between the University of Chicago Medicine and community-based doctors, clinics, and hospitals, UHI is helping to create a more rational health care system in which patients can get the care they need, when they need it.
