Chicago is served by two major airports: Midway International Airport and O’Hare International Airport. Midway is closer to the Hyde Park campus, but both offer ground transportation options to the University of Chicago.

Transportation to Campus from Midway International Airport

Taxi or rideshare: Follow airport signs to the taxi stand or rideshare pick-up areas. Travel time to Hyde Park is typically 20–40 minutes, depending on traffic.
Public transit options are available via the CTA Orange Line and CTA bus: please refer to your preferred maps application for directions.

Transportation to Campus from O'Hare International Airport

Taxi or rideshare: Follow airport signs to the designated taxi stands or rideshare pick-up areas. Expect 45–90 minutes of travel time, depending on traffic.
Public Transit options are available via the CTA Blue Line and Red Line or Metra Electric: please refer to your preferred maps application for directions.

Chicago’s regional and national rail and bus networks connect directly to downtown, where you can transfer to local transit or a taxi to campus.

Amtrak

Amtrak serves Chicago Union Station from many major U.S. cities. From Union Station, you can take a taxi or rideshare directly to Hyde Park or connect to Metra or CTA service downtown.

Metra

The Metra connects many Chicago-area suburbs to downtown Chicago where riders can connect with the Metra Electric Line, which runs to stations in Hyde Park. The 55th–56th–57th Street and 59th Street stops are within walking distance of many campus buildings.

South Shore Line

The South Shore Line connects the South Bend International Airport in South Bend, Indiana with the Millennium Station in downtown Chicago, where riders can connect with the Metra Electric Line, which runs to stations in Hyde Park.

Intercity Buses

Several intercity bus companies including Greyhound, Flixbus, and Jefferson lines serve downtown Chicago. From your arrival downtown, take a taxi, rideshare, or public transit to Hyde Park.

Local CTA Buses

Several CTA bus routes connect downtown and other neighborhoods to Hyde Park. For the latest route and schedule information, use a transit app or your preferred maps application before you travel.

The University of Chicago is located in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago. There are many ways to get to the University. If you are driving and would prefer written directions to campus, please refer to these directions to campus, or get driving directions with Google Maps.

If you are a single-day guest

The University of Chicago provides wireless network access to faculty, students, researchers, staff, and guests on campus. The University Guest Wireless Self-Registration portal allows guests to independently create single-day Wi-Fi accounts on the UChicago-Guest network. Note: Connected guest users will not be able to access campus resources directly, such as files and services that are specific to University of Chicago students, faculty, researchers, or staff members.

If you have a faculty or staff sponsor

The “UChicago-Guest” network allows campus visitors to access the internet with the approval of any faculty or full-time staff member. Access can be granted by sponsor online through uchicago-guest.uchicago.edu.

If you are doing library research

Those conducting library research can inquire at the Regenstein Library front desk about guest internet access. The pass will also allow you to view the Special Collections. Find complete library hours here.

All guests will log on with their new password on the “UChicago-Guest” wireless network. This network is unsecured, so browse at your discretion.

Most University buildings have their own lost-and-found locations.
